Residents were delighted to welcome an incubator containing ten chicks’ eggs into the home, just in time for hatching.
The incubator was set up in the quiet lounge under warm lights and residents and staff eagerly awaited the hatching of the chicks. “It was miraculous to watch the eggs hatching,” said Barbara, a resident. “Little cracks appeared in the shell and after a few minutes the tip of a beak poked through.”
It’s important to keep residents interested and to enrich their lives – particularly to give new and unexpected experiences (as long as they’re pleasant ones). The chicks certainly fit the bill and at the final count we had eight girls and two boys – the same as our female to male resident ratio.
